Abstract

The aim of the study was to evaluate impact of oestrus synchronization in dairy cows on biomarkers registered with automatic health monitoring systems (AHMS). All cows in the study (≥2 lactation) (n = 40) were clinically healthy. Cows were grouped according to the reproductive status: Group 1 (n = 20, natural oestrus, was observing one or more signs of oestrus: restlessness, alertness, persecution of other cows, secretion of mucus and their color and quantity, lifting of the tail, these signs observing up to 60 d.p.p.) and Group 2 (n = 20, did not go into oestrus (the cows showed no signs of oestrus  for group 2 the Ovsynch (0 d. GnRH – 7 d. PGF2 – 9 d. GnRH – 16-20 h insemination) synchronization protocol was applied). Data from the AHMS are collected on the day of insemination of the cows, taking a period of two weeks before the current insemination. Ultrasound was used to assess the reproductive system. The study found that the size of the follicles in the right ovary was 4.70% higher Group 1 cows than Group 2 (p<0.05). The milk yield in Group 1 cows during estrus decreased by 6.58% (p <0.05), and in Group 2 cows this indicator changed only by 1.26% (p> 0.05). The duration of activity in Group 1 (oestrus day) was found to be almost four times (3.99 times) longer than in Group 2 cows. We found that the ruminant time of Group 1 cows was reduced by 22.36%, while the ruminant time of Group 2 cows was reduced by only 5.74%. We can conclude that oestrus synchronization using the Ovsynch protocol does not significantly affect the biomarkers registered by AHMS.
