Abstract

The ongoing climate changes result, among others, in water scarcity and the occurrence of drought. Comprehensive use of rainwater may limit the use of groundwater. On the one hand, it contributes to the broadly understood protection of water and counteracting drought, but on the other hand, it enables the use of rainwater for breeding and sanitary purposes, as well as for active nature protection, technical and fire-fighting purposes in areas of water deficit. The aim of the study is to indicate the assumptions for the construction of a sustainable system for the use of rainwater in the Florianka forest settlement in the Roztocze National Park, where the Animal Breeding Center is located. It is assumed that the installation will consist of 5 modules: obtaining, collecting, redistributing and treating water to water animals, periodic supply of amphibian breeding sites, technical use of water for economic purposes (washing machines, watering lawns), sanitary use (flushing toilets in a container sanitary facility) and fire protection. The experience to date shows that rainwater can be used, after treatment, for animal watering and sanitary purposes. Rainwater is supposed to be in a naturally valuable area, it can be more useful for this purpose. After recognizing its physicochemical condition at the stage of acquisition, transport and collection, it will be possible to develop, implement and test the operation of a pilot installation for the collection and use of rainwater with a treatment system. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of rainwater will be compared with surface and groundwater in the catchment area of the Świerszcz stream, taking into account natural and breeding conditions. This will allow to determine the possibility of using rainwater for watering animals in the Roztocze National Park and in other places with water deficits.
