Abstract

The development of renewable sources of electricity is becoming an increasingly important task in the modern energy sector. RES is primarily related to the protection of the natural environment indicated by the European Union. The purpose of using photovoltaic cells is to achieve zero-emission electricity generation. In the long run, renewable energy may replace conventional coal-fired units causing environmental degradation. The dynamic development of modern ecological technologies for obtaining electricity has resulted in breaking the monopoly of large enterprises producing electricity from high-input, non-renewable and renewable energy sources. The energy sector has entered the day of energy production by households and small business entities for their own needs. Surplus energy produced is transferred to the distribution network and settled in the energy tariff. This phenomenon is called prosumption. A typical low-cost energy source available to every “roof owner” is a photovoltaic installation. The relatively low price of the photovoltaic installation and favorable legal regulations affect the dynamic growth of the number of installations and installed capacity. For this reason, prosumer photovoltaic installations are considered as an alternative to conventional sources. They improve the country’s energy security, reduce CO2 emissions and allow for independence from the electricity supplier. However, as the number of PV sources increases, there may be a local deterioration in the quality of electricity. The main problem is the increase in voltage at the place of connection of the PV source. The presentation shows the tendency to develop prosumption from photovoltaic sources. The legal environment and historical data on the number of photovoltaic installations in the Lublin Voivodeship and the increase in the value of installed capacity are shown. Data from 2015 – 2022 were analyzed. On this basis, conclusions were made indicating the direction of development of prosumer energy from photovoltaic installations. The conclusions concern the analysis of data from the voivodship, but they can be generalized to the whole country.
