Abstract

In the past 10 years the market of ultralight General Aviation aircraft is growing rapidly. During last two years, the manufacturers of ultralight aircraft began to equip their products with electronic avionics what made it possible to install Flight Data Recorders in every airship. This devices can record up to 100 hours of engine parameters data. This devices together with an external algorithm makes perfect test stand for aircraft engine parameters research. Data is collected while performing a full certification flight test program as well as during standard pilot training process. Then it is processed by an external „SafeFly” system which detects any irregularities in the operation of devices or misbehavior of the pilot. The irregularities are defined in accordance to the aircraft operation manual. Most of them are: exceeding the maximum or minimum parameters. The article presents the developed test stand and the planned range of tests of the engine’s operational parameters under real operating conditions. The whole test stand can work autonomously – collecting data from the FDR’s mounted at the aircraft via Wi-Fi, and then analyzing parameters on the external server, then sending to the researcher notifications about irregularities or abnormal behavior. System named “SafeFly” will be later commercialized to a support system for users of ultralight aircraft. It will be sold on a subscription basis as an additional service for owners to help them monitor the operation of the aircraft and its engine.
