Abstract
The aim of the analyses was to illustrate the achievements to date, as well as plans developed by the Roztocze National Park (1974–2024) concerning green and blue technologies to address the issue of climate change in an environmentally and culturally valuable area. Pursuant to the Nature Conservation Act of 16 April 2004 and the Roztocze National Park Protection Plan, the national park in question is responsible for protecting the natural and cultural heritage of Roztocze region while making it available for scientific research and monitoring, as well as providing access for educational and tourism purposes in a manner ensuring no negative impact on the protected area. With the goal of minimising its own adverse impact on the protected area, the Roztocze National Park employs green and blue technologies based on natural solutions. In the wake of Poland’s accession to the European Union on 1 May 2004, national and EU funding enabled installation of diverse environmental protection systems. The first steps involved thermal efficiency improvements to the facilities and asbestos abatement. In order to mitigate carbon emissions, the buildings of the Roztocze National Park were upgraded with sustainable energy sources – solar panels, PV cells, biomass furnaces, and heat pumps – whichever was deemed suitable. In order to limit groundwater usage and protect surface water, constructed wetlands and rainwater recovery facilities were built with the aim of cultivation, sanitation and general use. All the projects are carried out in accordance with the policy of landscape and energy neutrality. The plan envisages installing energy storage facilities. Moving forward, the development of microgrids with the aim of achieving energy independence as well as energy monitoring and management technologies are also planned. What is more, studies are underway to assess the economic and environmental impact of the implemented technologies.
