Abstract
Metabolic disorders, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes and lipid disorders, pose serious health challenges worldwide. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the role of food-derived antioxidants, especially in the context of metabolic disorders, due to their documented antioxidant activity and potential in reducing oxidative stress. The main objective of this study was an in-depth analysis of the available scientific evidence on the impact of antioxidants on preventing the development of metabolic disorders. The research focused on different groups of antioxidant compounds such as anthocyanins, curcumin and resveratrol, which are found in many fruits, vegetables and spices. The results of studies have shown that antioxidants reduce oxidative stress and inflammatory processes, which are key factors in the pathogenesis of obesity and diabetes. In addition, the analyses showed the positive effects of the studied antioxidant compounds on glucose and lipid metabolism, which may be important in the context of the prevention and treatment of metabolic disorders. In particular, some studies indicate the ability of anthocyanins to improve insulin sensitivity, which is crucial for maintaining normal blood glucose levels. Curcumin, in turn, may contribute to the reduction of inflammation associated with obesity, thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, and resveratrol shows potential in regulating blood lipids. Conclusions from this analysis may contribute to a better understanding of the role of antioxidants in the management of metabolic health, as well as to indicate directions for future research in this area. There is a need to further explore the mechanisms of action of these compounds and their long-term health effects, which may lead to the development of new intervention strategies and recommended dietary models that could support the prevention and treatment of metabolic disorders.
