Abstract
Tight tolerances are problematic, especially when machining on multi-axis machines and on large machines. The more numerically controlled axes a machine tool has, the more sources of error there are and the more difficult it is to meet the requrements for geometrical accuracy of workpieces. The accuracy of workpieces as well as the machine itself is increased, among others by correcting errors, especially volumetric error, and their compensation. Detailed analysis of volumetric errors requires the use of appropriate methods or tools that are the basic for their identification and compensation. The ability to identify and measure volumetric errrors is intended to increase the accuracy of measuring geometric and kinematic quantities of the CNC machine tool and improving the geometrical accuracy of the machine itself, and thus, improving the accuracy of shaping workpieces during machining. The paper presents methods of identification of volumetric errors, characteritics of devices enabling identification and compensation of volumetric errors and types of errors that make up the volumetric error.
