Incorporation of nano-sized cellulose into ordinary concrete to increase its durability

Abstract
Nanomaterials in cement composites refer to the use of nanoparticles as additives in cement-based materials to enhance their properties such as mechanical strength, durability, and thermal stability. The use of nanomaterials in cement composites is a relatively new field of research that holds great potential for the development of new, high-performance building materials. The use of nanomaterials in cement composites is still in its early stages, and further research is needed to fully understand their effects and optimize their use. However, the potential benefits of incorporating nanomaterials into cement composites make it an exciting area of research with great potential for the future. Creating new materials from waste materials is a process known as upcycling, and it can be a sustainable solution that reduces waste and conserves resources. This process can involve converting waste materials into new products with improved properties or using waste as raw materials for industrial processes. Upcycling can help reduce the environmental impact of waste and provide economic benefits by creating new products and reducing the need for virgin materials. Nanocellulose is a material derived from plant-based sources such as wood pulp, and it has been investigated for use in concrete due to its potential benefits. When added to concrete, nanocellulose can enhance the mechanical properties of the material, increase its durability, and reduce its weight. One way in which nanocellulose can be used in concrete is by adding it to the mixture during the mixing process. Another way in which nanocellulose can be used in concrete is by incorporating it into the aggregate.
