Dietary intervention supporting remission in Crohn’s disease

Abstract
Crohn’s disease (CD) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that significantly affects the quality of life of patients. Although the etiology of the disease is not fully understood, genetic, immunological, and environmental factors contribute to its development. Diet plays a key role both in the onset and in the treatment of the disease. Proper dietary intervention can support the achievement and maintenance of remission, reduce symptoms, and prevent complications. The aim of this study is to analyze the role of diet therapy in Crohn’s disease, with a particular focus on its impact on symptom control and the improvement of health status in pediatric patients. The study consists of two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part includes a review of the literature on Crohn’s disease, its pathophysiology, nutritional aspects, and available therapeutic approaches. The practical part presents a case study of a pediatric patient diagnosed with the disease, considering the implementation of dietary strategies over a period of three months. A dietary plan was developed based on an anti-inflammatory, nutrient-rich diet, tailored to the individual needs of the patient. The effectiveness of the intervention was assessed through clinical observations, symptom monitoring, and diet composition analysis. The dietary intervention was evaluated for its impact on food tolerance, energy requirements, and the overall well-being of the patient. The results indicate a positive impact of dietary modifications, including elimination diets, elemental nutrition, and individually tailored meal plans, in the treatment of Crohn’s disease. Challenges related to adherence to dietary recommendations, nutritional limitations, and the long term effectiveness of the intervention were also discussed. Diet therapy plays a crucial role in the treatment of Crohn’s disease, especially in pediatric patients. Individually tailored nutritional strategies may contribute to alleviating symptoms, reducing inflammation, and maintaining long-term remission. Further studies involving larger patient groups and longer observation periods are necessary to develop standardized dietary guidelines for patients with Crohn’s disease.
