Abstract
Industries in the agricultural sector are closely interlinked. Changes within one of them result in changes in the others. In livestock production, one of the key aspects of its profitability is an abundant supply of fodder and an efficient system of feeding livestock. Forage production is largely dependent on advances made in machinery design and agricultural engineering processing. In today’s reality, animal products manufacturers need a large quantity of a high-quality compound feed to achieve maximum productivity in livestock farming. The questions still remain: “What feed materials are to be used?” and “How to process them?”. With regard to the production of plant materials, the climate conditions and soil characteristics in the chosen growing region will have a major influence on profitability. Often, many fodder plant species, despite having advantages such as low soil requirements, have disadvantages due to their chemical composition. The best examples are the Fabaceae, which include soya beans (Glycine Willd.), lupins (Lupinus sp. L.), beans (Phaseolus sp. L.) and others. The seeds of these plants may contain a variety of chemical substances that impede protein digestion and even cause severe food poisoning in animals. Such substances include proteolytic enzyme inhibitors, tannins, lectins and others. However, numerous studies on the application of treatment of feed materials prove that it is possible to apply selected methods of baro-hydro-thermal treatment to feed certain plant materials. The aim of this study was to analyze the applied methods of processing crops, the effectiveness of these methods and the further use of the raw materials to produce compound feed.
